The Fryderyk Chopin Birthplace and Park in Żelazowa Wola is a special place for lovers of Fryderyk Chopin’s music. The historical annex is the only surviving building from the times when the Chopin family lived in Żelazowa Wola. It is here that Fryderyk Chopin came into the world in 1810.

The Museum in Żelazowa Wola was founded in the 1930s. At that time, the Chopin Annex was restructured in the style of a Polish manor house; the building was outfitted with a columned gallery and surrounded with a unique, modern ‘memorial park’. This landscaped area was conceived as a symbolic space, a monument – an expression of homage to the Polish composer.

According to Franciszek Krzywda-Polkowski, the author of the monument-park design, performance of and listening to music was intended to be one of the most important elements associated with a visit to Chopin’s birthplace. Back before the war, a few concerts were organized in Żelazowa Wola; right after the war, the first recitals took place in the devastated interiors of the Chopin Birthplace. Since 1954, thanks to the initiative of Prof. Zbigniew Drzewiecki, a wonderful pianist and teacher, concerts have been taking place regularly in Żelazowa Wola.

The concert season in Żelazowa Wola lasts from May until the end of September. During this time, one can hear Chopin recitals every Saturday and Sunday at 12:00 PM and 3:00 PM given by outstanding Polish and foreign pianists – above all, Chopin Competition prizewinners.

During the summer months, we invite you to Chopin Recitals in the rendition of world-class pianists: Piotr Paleczny, Wojciech Świtała, Krzysztof Jabłoński and prizewinners from the most recent, 17th Chopin Competition: Eric Lu and Charles Richard-Hamelin.

Sunday, 26 August promises to be particularly special. That day, we invite you to Żelazowa Wola for the Day of Paderewski. The event alludes to the program of this year’s 14th Chopin and His Europe International Music Festival, built around two iconic figures in Polish culture: Fryderyk Chopin and Ignacy Jan Paderewski. On this occasion, there will be a special recital at 3:00 PM by Dang Thai Son, 1st Prize winner at the 1980 Fryderyk Chopin International Piano Competition in Warsaw.

Beyond this, at 5:00 PM on the south Terrace of the Chopin Birthplace, a presentation entitled Chopin’s Loves in the rendition of actors from the Scena Theater will take place. The show’s script, authored by Andrzej Ferenc, is based on fragments from Chopin’s letters written to and received from people he loved and was close to. It is a dramatized tale of the most important women in the composer’s life. It presents a Chopin full of ardor, passion and love. Along with the actors, young pianists will also perform in the show. The presentation is thus not only a concert of acting performance, but also a Chopin concert.

We invite you to visit the Fryderyk Chopin Birthplace and Park in Żelazowa Wola and hear works by Chopin performed straight from the room in which the composer was born.

Entrance to the recitals is possible as part of the admission ticket to the Fryderyk Chopin Birthplace and Park in Żelazowa Wola.
