For several months, an application for smartphones has been available for free – an audioguide to the Birthplace of Fryderyk Chopin and Park in Żelazowa Wola. It contains:

  • a short film featuring the natural beauty of Mazovia, where Chopin was born and spent time in his youth
  • the audioguide
  • practical information such as the museum’s location, opening hours and ticket prices
  • attractive photos of the interior of the annex where Chopin was born and of the park
  • recordings of selected works of Chopin performed by distinguished pianists on period instruments

An expanded version of the app is available now. It will also include a map of the entire grounds of the museum comprising the annex and the unique commemorative park. Points in the audioguide are marked on the map; by selecting the number given, you can listen to information on that particular point. The map also contains practical information for visitors.

The new version of the app also includes two texts on the history of the birthplace of Chopin, and of the park created in his honour. These are illustrated with period documents and rare photographs showing Żelazowa Wola as it was from the late 19th century up to before the Second World War. They evoke the atmosphere of this very special place, which has undergone many changes, yet maintains its unique character.

The application is available in Polish and English, and can be downloaded from the AppStore for iPhones, or from Android Market for devices running on the Android operating system. It can also be downloaded on the spot using a QR code (a free hot-spot has been installed in the Preludium reception building).

The author of the application substantive content is the Fryderyk Chopin Institute. It was produced by iSource.
